Women's Tennis Downs Truett-McConnell in Season Opener

ROME- The Shorter women's tennis team opened the 2026 spring season with a strong performance, defeating Truett-McConnell 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Walt Attaway Tennis Complex.
 

In doubles action, the pairing of Sharick Guiza and Laura Martin earned a 6-3 win at the No. 1 position. Lady Villanueva and Sofia Arellano followed with a dominant 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Caroline Johnson and Danielle Hernandez completed the sweep with a 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot.
 

Shorter carried that momentum into singles competition, winning five of six matches. Guiza picked up a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles, defeating Katie Stanfield 6-1, 6-1. Arellano earned a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles, while Martin cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3.
 

Villanueva added another point for the Hawks with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles. Caroline Johnson closed out singles play with a 7-6, 6-1 victory at the No. 6 position.
 

Truett-McConnell's lone point came at No. 5 singles, when they edged Danielle Hernandez in a three-set match.
 

UP NEXT

The Hawks will have a quick turnaround as they host Ogelthorpe on Monday at 2:00 PM.
