Davis' Career-High Elevates Hawks to 96-86 Win Over Converse

Box Score ROME- The Shorter Men's Basketball earned a hard-fought victory over the Converse Valkyries Wednesday night at the WKC in a 96-86 victory.

The Hawks came out of the gates guns blazing, scoring the first seven points of the contest. Shorter's offense continued to flourish, as Donovan Shangase nailed back-to-back triples to take a 20-7 lead. Shorter continued to control the narrative, holding on to the lead. Converse stayed on the heels of the Hawks, cutting the lead to single digits late. Shorter held on despite the late push, entering the break in front 46-42.

Ja'Myas Davis put the Hawks in front 51-44 early in the second frame with a three to solidify Shorter's lead. Converse got hot, going on an 11-2 run to claim their first lead of the night. The Hawks remained poised, with Cole Hulsey draining a three to give Shorter the 73-67 lead to give the Hawks a huge momentum shift. Shorter continued to stay hot, with David Compere connecting on a three at the 4:52 mark to put Shorter ahead 82-71. The Hawks maintained control, holding off any last-second efforts from the visitors as Shorter earned the 96-86 win, a new season-high in points as a unit.

As a team, the Hawks were efficient, shooting 34-55 (61.8%) from the floor while also connecting on 10-19 (52.6%) from three. Shorter was also a perfect 18-18 from the charity stripe, making the most out of their trips. Four Hawks finished in double-figures, showcasing a true team effort. Ja'Myas Davis led the Hawks with a career-high 28 points off an efficient 10-16 clip while also grabbing seven rebounds. Chris Bibbs poured in 24 points on 9-15 shooting while Donovan Shangase chipped in 18 points. David Compere rounded out the Hawks, tying his career-high of 14 points.

"Again, very thankful for this group", said Head Coach Wade Anderson. "We were a little short-handed and the guys came through. Freshmen stepped up, as Cole came in and played big minutes. It was nice to make free throws, not missing one and being able to get rebounds down the stretch".
