Hawks Offense Soars Over Augusta in 10-7 Win

AUGUSTA, Ga.- The Shorter Baseball team (6-3) delivered an explosive offensive outing to propel them to a 10-7 victory over Augusta (7-5) on Tuesday night.

The Hawks struck first in the top of the second, as a Micah Shipman ground-out drove a run home to give Shorter the early lead. An Isaiah Sims two-run double and a Michael Barron RBI double added three more runs as Shorter took the 4-0 lead. The Jaguars responded quickly, drawing in four runs in the bottom of the third to even it up. Augusta tacked on another run in the fourth to grab the 5-4 lead.

The Hawks responded in a major way in the sixth, as Brooks McKenna tied the game on an RBI single that sent Tyler Zawacki home. Sims then answered the call for the Hawks, plating four on a grand slam to left center to put Shorter back out in front. The Jaguars continued to put dents in the lead, adding a pair of runs across the sixth and the seventh. In the top of the ninth, Drake Cobb added some extra security to the Hawks' lead with a solo bomb down left field, before Tanner Folds closed the door on Augusta in relief, granting Shorter the 10-7 win. Brodie Baweja earned his first career win on the mound, going 2.1 innings, allowing just one hit, one earned run, and a putout before Folds earned the save with 1.2 innings thrown and three strikeouts.

"It was a good team win that was well needed after last weekend!" said Head Coach Wes Timmons. "The mindset of this group never wavered. They worked yesterday at practice as if we had a great weekend, and they played tonight with that same attitude. I am coaching a band of kids who love playing baseball and have grown to really enjoy one another. Win or lose, these guys are going to have a blast on the field and not let much affect them otherwise. I really am blessed to have the ability to coach this group! It makes coming to the office every day a lot more fun".

Isaiah Sims: 2-3, HR, 6 RBI, 3 R
Drake Cobb: 2-4, HR, RBI, 3 R
