ROME- The Shorter Softball team fell in their doubleheader series against Middle Georgia State on Tuesday afternoon at Alto Park. The Hawks fell short in game one, falling 3-2, before suffering a 10-2 loss in game two.
GAME ONE
The Knights scored the first two runs of the contest on a walk in the first inning and capitalized on a Shorter error in the second. Shorter got on the board as
Madison Hancock flied out to left field to bring home
Zariah Webb. In the very next inning,
Lizzy Mitchell sailed one to centerfield, driving in a run to even it up at two.
The visitors would score late on an RBI double in the sixth to take the 3-2 lead. Shorter battled in the final two innings, but could not muster a run as they dropped the opening game of the series in a 3-2 defeat.

GAME TWO
The Hawks, unfortunately, struggled in the second game of the evening. The Knights got on the board in the first after an error sent a runner home. The visitors would break open their lead with a six-run inning in the second as the Hawks fell behind 7-0. Middle Georgia added two more runs to increase their lead before the Hawks were able to bring in two of their own. Shorter continued to fight, but would fall in a 10-2 defeat.
UP NEXT
The Hawks will return to the road this weekend where they will compete in the Sam Baldwin Invitational starting off against UAH for a series on Friday beginning at 12 PM EST.
