BRISTOL, TENN. – The Shorter Volleyball team fell to King Saturday afternoon in a 3-1 (23-25, 25-17, 22-25, 18-25) defeat at Kline Gym. The loss drops Shorter to 7-10 overall and 5-4 in conference play.
The Hawks struggled to keep pace with the Tornados in the opening set, as the hosts jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, taking the first set. After keeping it close in the second set, Shorter battled back and traded leads with the hosts. The Hawks closed the set on a commanding 13-8 run to even the match at 1-1 and carry momentum into the third set.
The Hawks battled the hosts closely to start the third set. Shorter continued to battle but could not overcome the deficit, as King reclaimed the lead and took a 2-1 advantage heading into the fourth set. Both teams battled early in the fourth set, but another big run from the Tornados put the match out of reach for the Hawks as King secured the 3-1 victory.
Caroline Sivills paced the Shorter offense with 17 kills and 19.5 points, while Abby McDonald had a career day, leading the Hawks defensively with 14 digs.

The Hawks will return to Rome on Tuesday as they welcome Georgia College for a 6 p.m. match.
