Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C.- The Shorter Hawks battled off a second-half surge from Converse to defeat the Valkyries in a 70-62 final Friday night.

Converse came out swinging in the fourth, regaining the lead after scoring six straight. Chelsy Singleton went on a tear in the fourth, scoring nine of her new career-high 23 points to help Shorter hold off the hosts. Another run by the Hawks put them in the driver's seat, granting Shorter the 70-62 win on the road.

The Hawks shot well as a unit, going 25-of-53 from the field for an efficient 47.2% clip. The Hawks controlled the paint, outscoring Converse 44-18 in the paint. For the second straight game, Chelsy Singleton led the Hawks with 23 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Amiya Redus finished with 19 points while recording a team-high four steals. Amya Patterson and Aijah Manning rounded out the Hawks as Patterson finished with 14 points and Manning with a near double-double of eight points and 10 rebounds.

"It was a great win for us tonight", said Head Coach LaSheena Brooks. "It feels great to go 2-0 on the road this week. We had a huge lead in the first quarter, scoring 26 points thanks to great guard play from Singleton and Redus. We knew we would be bigger, so scoring inside was a priority, and I think we dominated there with 44 points in the paint".
