Box Score ROME- The Shorter Hawks fell to Chowan Saturday afternoon in a tough 57-48 defeat inside the Winthrop-King Centre.
The Hawks got off to a slow start, falling behind 16-7 in the first quarter. Shorter's offense found their rhythm as they closed the quarter on an 8-2 run to make it 18-15 after one. After trading buckets at the start of the second, the visitors jumped out to an eight-point lead. The Hawks stormed back as
Chelsy Singleton converted on a go-ahead layup as Shorter entered the half down 28-24.
Chowan got off to a hot start in the third quarter as Shorter struggled to convert from the field, going on a 12-4 run to take a 41-27 lead. The Hawks continued to fight, but would find themselves behind 43-31 as they entered the final quarter. Chowan continued to control the narrative for the rest of the game despite a late push from Shorter, as the Hawks fell in a 57-48 final.
Chelsy Singleton led all scorers with a career-high 20 points on an impressive 9-of-14 from the field, while also grabbing two rebounds and four assists.
