Box Score CENTRAL, S.C.- The Hawks came up short despite a strong second half against Southern Wesleyan Wednesday night in a 86-77 final.
The Hawks started the game hot, as
Chris Bibbs connected from downtown to put Shorter out in front 9-2. After taking an 18-15 lead, the Hawks fell victim to a 9-0 run by the hosts. The Hawks continued to fight for the remainder of the first frame, but struggled to keep the Warriors off the glass as the hosts entered halftime with a 45-35 lead.
The Hawks struggled to begin the second half, as the Warriors took charge with a 61-44 lead at the 11:56 mark. The Hawks managed to find their offense late in the contest, as they made it a 76-71 affair after outscoring the Warriors 27-11 with
Chris Bibbs and
Ja'Myas Davis leading the way. The Warriors fought back pushing their lead to eight at the 2:00 mark. The Hawks trimmed the lead back down to five as
Donovan Shangase forced the contact and got the and-one with 1:30 remaining. Unfortunately for Shorter, the Warriors put the game out of reach with a late three as the Hawks fell in a 86-77 final.
Despite the loss,
Ja'Myas Davis had a career-outing, scoring a career-high 24 points while
Chris Bibbs had a well-rounded effort of 20 points, five rebounds, and five assists.

The Hawks will return to action next Thursday as they host King for a 7:30 PM tip-off.
