SAVANNAH, Ga.- The Shorter football team fell in a defensive oriented game to Savannah State Saturday night in a 13-0 final.
The loss drops the Hawks to 0-2 on the season.
The Hawks got off to a slow start on the offensive side of the ball, struggling to convert on third downs. Despite the rough start offensively, the Hawk defense showed great resilience by shutting down the Tigers offense and helping keep Shorter within striking distance for the remainder of the first quarter. After more of the same in the second quarter, the Tigers got on the board with a field goal to take a 3-0 lead heading into the half.
Shorter's defense continued to make up for the Hawks' struggles on offense, providing multiple stops and building momentum.

Kobe Butts set the tone defensively for the Hawks each recording 10 tackles, with Butts forcing a fumble. The Tigers made their lead a two-possession one as they scored the first touchdown of the game to jump ahead 10-0. The Hawks offense started to come to life as Jeb Wells helped give the Hawks some momentum, leading productive drives. The Tigers tacked on a field goal in the fourth to increase their lead. The Hawks offense picked back up in the fourth, but struggled to convert late. The Hawks continued to battle late, but would fall in a 13-0 final.
Jeb Walls performed well in his first appearance, completing 10 passes for 104 yards. Terrance Vandiver Jr. led the Hawks in receiving, hauling in six catches for 62 yards. The Hawks defense played well, preventing the Tigers offense from driving and holding them to 5-16 on third-down conversions.

Shorter will remain on the road as they travel to West Florida next week on Saturday, September 13. Kickoff will take place at 6:00 PM.
