Box Score 2 VALDOSTA, Ga.- The Shorter volleyball team fell to Valdosta State on the road Friday morning in three sets (21-25, 17-25, 10-25) at The Complex before dropping their second match of the day against Anderson.
Match vs. Valdosta State
The Hawks started out strong, jumping ahead 5-1, before the Blazers reclaimed the lead on an intense rally. Shorter continued to battle for the rest of the set, but would get edged out by Valdosta State 25-21.
Both sides engaged in a back and forth affair to begin set two, with a 10-10 score at the halfway mark. Shorter unfortunately struggled to keep up with the Blazers as they engaged in another rally that would propel them to a 25-17 win in set two. The Hawks fought hard but struggled in the final set as they fell 25-10.
Victoria Sparks led the Hawks with seven kills while also contributing defensively with six digs.
Claudia Loyola led the Hawks with seven digs as
Caitlyn Sutton added six herself.
Match vs. Anderson
Set one proved to be a back and forth affair early on with neither team gaining an edge. Unfortunately for the Hawks, the Trojans would go on a run and take the first set 25-17.
Set two was also a closely knit one, as the Hawks and Trojans battled it out for the majority of the set. Shorter would unfortunately fall short as Anderson took the second set 25-21.
The Hawks showed true resiliency after they crawled back from behind 14-8 to get within one of the Trojans. Despite the fight from Shorter, Anderson pulled ahead late and would take the final set 25-21.
Victoria Sparks led the Hawks in kills for the third straight match as she totaled nine.
Brooke Thao and
Helena Kelley did well in the assists department, with Thao recording 14 and Kelley dishing out ten.
Claudia Loyola provided 17 digs while
Victoria Sparks recorded 11 to round out the Hawks.
UP NEXT
Shorter will compete in day two of the Valdosta State Fall Tournament as they face Palm Beach Atlantic and Georgia College tomorrow.
