Box Score ROME, Ga.- The Shorter Women's Basketball team fell to Miles College at the WKC this Saturday afternoon in a 70-56 defeat. The loss drops the Hawks to 3-4 on the season. 

The Hawks began the opening frame on a 9-3 run thanks to three pointers from Ahtiana Benway and Amya Patterson. The visitors stormed back, but the Hawks held on, leading 19-16 after one. The second quarter was tight, with neither side allowing the other to lead by more than four. The Bears applied heavy pressure to the Hawks, forcing several turnovers. The visitors closed the half on an 8-2 run to make it a 38-34 affair.

The second half was a defensive battle for both sides. After a slow start from the Hawks, they managed to even the score at 40 at the 4:22 minute mark as D'Naylah Williams converted on a fast-break layup.  The Hawks and Bears continued to fight with Miles converting on a last-minute turnover, going up 52-46 as they entered the fourth. As the final quarter began, the Hawks struggled to convert from the field and struggled to handle the pressure from the Bears. Shorter continued to fight, but could not overcome the strong quarter from the visitors, as they fell in a 70-56 final. 

As a whole, the Hawks shot 44.9% from the field and went 33.3% from behind the arc. Amiya Redus led the Hawks with 15 points, with respectable performances from Amari Butler, who scored 11, and Amya Patterson, who added 10 points and four assists. D'Naylah Williams provided great minutes off the bench, scoring eight points.

Shorter will look ahead as they travel to Wilson, North Carolina, next Saturday as they face off against Barton at 2:00 PM.
