GREENVILLE, S.C.- Ten members of the Shorter Football team were named as Conference Carolinas All-Conference selections as announced by the league on Thursday. The Hawks featured five first-team selections and three second-team selections.
Jayden Rubbo was recognized as Freshman Defensive Player of the Year, with
Isaac Walls being named Offensive Lineman of the Year.
Jayden Rubbo excelled in his freshman campaign with the Hawks. Rubbo appeared in all nine games, totaling 35 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks. Rubbo helped the Hawks have the top rushing defense in the conference this season with his play.
Isaac Walls played a key role in establishing the Hawks' success on the run game this season. Walls appeared in eight contests, helping the Hawks' line hold strong and have the third-best scoring offense in the conference and the top rushing attack. Walls was also recognized as first team all-conference for his play at the center position this season.
Lanear McCrary Jr. was a force out of the backfield for Shorter this season, being named first-team all-conference as well as all-purpose back. McCrary Jr. became the first Shorter back since 2015 to rush for 1,000 yards in a season as he ran for 1,022 yards and nine touchdowns on just 173 carries for an average of 5.9 yards per carry. He also finished with 16 catches for 106 yards and a receiving touchdown while totaling 387 yards on kickoff returns.
Freshman guard
Jukorian Thomas made his presence felt for the Hawks this season. Thomas appeared in seven games, helping the Hawks dominate on the ground and through the air.
Long-snapper
Brady Reeder performed well for Shorter this year. The Auburn, Alabama native appeared in all nine contests this season, playing a key role on the Hawks' special teams.
Tackle
Jacorey Wright stepped up for the Hawks this season, receiving second-team all-conference nods. Wright appeared in all nine contests, helping the Hawks to the top rushing attack in the conference.
Linebacker
Kobe Butts earned first-team recognition for his play this year for Shorter. Butts appeared in nine contests, recording 44 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and an interception. Butts' dominance for the Hawks established Shorter as the best rushing defense in the conference.
Defensive end
John Hughes was a force to be reckoned with this season. Hughes appeared in all nine contests, recording 20 tackles, 6.5 tackles for a loss, and a conference-leading 4.0 sacks. Hughes also forced a fumble, establishing the Hawks' strong defensive front this season.
Jahseim Henry proved to be an enforcer for the Hawks' defensive line this season. Henry appeared in all nine contests, recording 22 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery. Henry paved the way for Shorter, being a leader for the Hawks this season.
