LANDER, S.C.- The Shorter wrestling team battled but fell in a narrow 28-27 defeat to Belmont Abbey inside of Finis Horne Arena Wednesday night.
After dropping the first two bouts, the Hawks rallied as
Brayden Gibson (141 pounds) defeated his opponent in a fall.
Jonathan Fogus (157 pounds) earned a hard-fought victory over his opposition in a lengthy fall.
Jack Ponder (165 pounds) gave the Hawks the 18-17 lead after he recorded a fall. Shorter continued to roll as
Riley Davis (174 pounds) defeated his opponent in a decision to extend the Hawks' lead to three. Unfortunately, for the Hawks, Belmont Abbey took the victory in the 184-pound class in a TF that would grant them the victory after both sides traded forfeit matches to make it a 28-27 final.
