Box Score MURFREESBORO, N.C.- The Shorter volleyball team notched their sixth straight victory as they defeated Chowan in four sets Saturday afternoon.
The opening set went down to the wire as Shorter staged a late comeback after falling behind early. Despite the strong comeback bid, Chowan held on, taking the first set. Much like the opening set, Shorter and Chowan continued to trade points as they went down to the wire once again. After evening it up at 23, the Hawks scraped by to take the second set.
The third set went in favor of Shorter, who, after taking an 11-6 lead, went on a commanding 14-3 run to swing the momentum to their side and take the victory. In the fourth set, both sides brought much intensity, with no side grabbing the upper hand. The Hawks took a 22-19 lead late and held on despite another comeback from Chowan to make it six straight victories.
Helena Kelley had her most dominant performance of the season, recording season highs in assists with 27 and digs with 20 to make it her fourth double-double of the season.
Victoria Sparks led with 17 kills as
Acca Berube recorded nine, and
Ava Medina added eight.
Caitlyn Sutton and
Claudia Loyola contributed well in the dig department, as Sutton added 14 and Loyola with ten.
This win improves Shorter to 8-5 overall, while pushing them to 7-1 in conference play.
UP NEXT
Shorter will remain on the road as they travel to Atlanta on Tuesday to compete against Middle Georgia State at 4 PM and Clark Atlanta at 6:00 PM in a tri-match.
