FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga.- The Shorter Volleyball team fell to Emmanuel Wednesday night in a 3-1 defeat at the Shaw Athletic Center.
Shorter controlled the opening set, leading by as much as nine at the halfway mark. The Lions made a late push, but it would not be enough as the Hawks took the 1-0 lead. Both sides battled hard to begin the second set. After the Hawks brought it to within two, the Lions responded by going on a 15-3 run to even the match.
The Hawks kept it close in the third set, with several lead changes occurring. The Lions, unfortunately, broke through with the score tied at 21, closing the third set on a 4-2 run. Shorter started strong in the fourth set, scoring five straight to begin. The Lions stormed back as they kept it close for the rest of the set. With the score tied at 22, the Lions scored three straight to defeat the Hawks in a 3-1 final.
Caroline Sivills led the Hawks with 12 kills on the day. Three Hawks recorded double-digit digs, as
Victoria Sparks and Helena Kelly each had 17, and
Brooke Thao finished with 14.
The loss drops the Hawks to 14-10 overall while falling to 11-5 in conference play.

Shorter will remain on the road as they travel to Banner Elk, North Carolina, to take on Lees-McRae this Saturday at 1:00 PM.
