Box Score ROME, Ga.- The Shorter Volleyball team fell to Francis Marion Friday night in straight sets in the Winthrop-King Centre.
The opening set proved to be the main theme of Friday's match as neither team managed to pull ahead. After the Hawks took a 12-8 lead, the Patriots responded with a 7-0 run to regain control of the set. The Hawks made a push late, but would fall short as Francis Marion took set one.Â
The second set was another tight battle that went down to the wire. After the Hawks tied it at 19, the Patriots pushed out ahead, outscoring Shorter 3-2 to take a 2-0 lead. Shorter continued to battle as the third set began. After more back-and-forth, the Hawks scored four straight to regain momentum. Francis Marion responded with a 6-1 run to reclaim the lead. Both sides traded points in the final going, with Francis Marion pulling out ahead after scoring two straight points to take the match in straight sets.Â
Victoria Sparks led the team with nine kills as
Caroline Sivills recorded eight kills herself. Sparks also led the Hawks in digs with 15 digs as
Brooke Thao added in 13 digs alongside her 16 assists.Â
