Box Score BELMONT, N.C.- The Shorter volleyball team mounted an incredible reverse sweep against Belmont Abbey Friday night to keep their conference win streak alive.
The Hawks and Crusaders played it close in the opening set, with Shorter evening it all up at 10 after a service error from Belmont Abbey. The Crusaders notched a 7-1 run to extend their lead and give them the opening set. The Crusaders did not slow down, as they jumped ahead 11-5 in the second set. Shorter crawled their way back, but never managed to gain the lead as the Crusaders grabbed the second set.
The tide turned the way of the Hawks in the third set, with Shorter maintaining control for the majority of it. The Crusaders made a late push, but it wasn't enough as the Hawks took the third set. After falling behind 6-4 in the fourth set, the Hawks took back the lead and never trailed as the momentum shifted their way to force a fifth and final set.
Shorter took control in the final set, jumping out ahead 8-3 and ultimately completing the reverse sweep as they downed Belmont Abbey 15-9 in a thrilling come-from-behind victory to extend their conference winning streak to nine matches.
The win improves Shorter to 13-6 overall, while making them 10-1 in conference action.
Audrey Brooks and
Taylor-Reese Howell each recorded double-doubles, as Brooks finished with 12 kills and 14 points, and Howell with 10 kills and 11.5 points.
Brooke Thao and Victoria McNair, who made her debut for the Hawks tonight, shined in the assists department as Thao added in 22 and McNair with 14. Shorter had a well-balanced attack defensively, with
Victoria Sparks leading with 13 digs and
Adalyn Stewart adding in nine.

Shorter will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Virginia to face Ferrum Saturday at noon.
