ROME, Ga. — Shorter University Hawks and Malone University Pioneers faced off on Saturday, at Ben Brady Field in Rome, Georgia. Coming off a historic 2-0 start to the season, the Hawks came into this game in good position to win. After enduring a rough first quarter,
Jaden Sealey put Shorter on the board with just 4 seconds left in the first quarter, making it 1-6 in favor of Malone. This sparked a dominant uncontested 6 goal run of their own, making it 6-6 going into halftime. The second quarter saw 4 different point scorers for the hawks, in the likes of
Jaden Sealey, Luke Sharer,
Cordell Greenwood, and
Grant Sanders. Defense and ball possession played a pivotal role in today's match, with Sophomore Javier Gonzalez and Freshman
Michael Glueck picking up 5 and 6 ground balls, respectively. Despite a back and forth battle that lasted until the final whistle, the Hawks came up short, closing out the day 17-21. Win or lose, the remarkable improvements we've seen in this Shorter squad so far makes for a very exciting 2024 season. The Hawks take on Centenary College tonight at 6pm at Ben Brady field.
