Lady Hawks Glide Past Southern Wesleyan for 5th Straight Win

ROME, Ga. — The Lady Hawks advance to 6-1 with their second conference win of the season.

SUMMARY:
In an electrifying display of basketball prowess, the Shorter Lady Hawkscame out on top against the Southern Wesleyan Warriors with a decisive 68-56 victory at Winthrop-King Centre on Saturday afternoon. This win demonstrates the Hawks' strong form, advancing their record to 6-1 overall and maintaining a 2-0 streak in the Conference Carolinas. From the outset, the Hawks established a commanding presence, ending the first half with a lead of 37-29. This solid foundation set the stage for the rest of the encounter, where they managed to maintain and extend their lead, culminating in a 12-point lead by the game's conclusion. Amya Patterson led the scoring with an impressive 16 points, closely followed by team contributions from Derrica McCall and Tiara Lewis, each adding 13 points. Emariah Grant also chipped in crucially with 11 points. Tiara Lewis not only scored significantly but also excelled defensively with 12 rebounds, embodying the team's strategy as highlighted by Coach Brooks. In remarks after the game, Coach Brooks praised the team's unified focus and defensive execution. "Our team has the same goal and that's the great part. We are going to defend. I am confident in our leadership and our ability to adjust. I want our ladies to enjoy this win tonight and focus tomorrow as we prepare for this road trip to Pembroke," explained Coach Brooks. The game was tightly contested with three lead changes, exemplifying the competitive spirit between the Hawks and the Warriors. The Hawks excelled in multiple areas, scoring 38 points in the paint and adding 19 points off turnovers, which were pivotal to their victory. The bench also played a significant role, contributing 16 points to the scoreboard.

· Amya Patterson led the Hawks with 16 points (2/3 3-pointers), 2 steals, and 4 rebounds.

· Derrica McCall has reached double digits in each game this season (13 points tonight)

· Tiara Lewis notched her 5th Double-Double of the young season (13 points and 12 rebounds).

· Hawks shot 49% from the field

· The Hawks won the rebounding batter 36 – 19

· Hawks improved to 2-0 in the conference

Recieving votes for the 4th week in a row in the D2CSC Regional Poll, the Hawks are hungry and looking ahead to another conference contest against UNC Pembroke on December 17, as they seek to continue their winning streak and solidify their position in the Conference Carolinas standings.
