Hawks Soar Above Bobcats

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – SU Wins in a Thriller on the Road

INSIDE THE MATCHUP

Final: Shorter 64, Georgia College 60

SUMMARY:

The Shorter Hawks soared to a thrilling 64-60 victory against Georgia College on November 20, 2024, at the Centennial Center in Milledgeville, GA. The Hawks, now 2-1, showcased resilience and team effort to fend off the Bobcats, who fell to 4-1 in this non-conference clash. The Hawks dominated the opening quarter with a commanding 23-14 lead, fueled by accurate shooting and defensive pressure.

The second quarter started off with both teams trading 3-point baskets (Evie DePetro and Tori Smiley). Georgia College went on an 9-0 run to tie the ball game. Back-to-back layups gave the Hawks a 4-point cushion. Emariah Grant scored as time expired to give the Hawks a 36 -32 lead at half-time.

The third quarter went much like the second, with both teams trading baskets until the final horn. Baker scored or assisted on 11 of the 13 Hawks points made in the quarter. Derrica McCall ended the period with a pull-up jump shot with four seconds to go in the period.

With the score tied at 60 in the final minute, Baker's composure at the line and McCall's free throws extended the Hawks' lead. Shorter's defense held firm as Georgia College missed their final attempts, ensuring the Hawks' hard-fought victory. This win underscores the Hawks' determination and sets a strong tone as they prepare for conference play in the upcoming weeks.

WORDS FROM THE HAWKS:

This game was an important win for us as we head into our first conference game on Saturday" – Head Coach LaSheena Brooks\

ON THE HORIZON:

Shorter will travel to Mount Olive on Saturday, November 23rd for their first official conference game as a member of Conference Carolinas.
