Hawks Dominate Erskine with Straight-Set Victory at Home

ROME, Ga. — Shorter University's volleyball team delivered a dominant performance on Tuesday, defeating Erskine in straight sets at the Winthrop-King Centre in Rome, Georgia. The 3-0 victory (set scores: 25-15, 25-19, 25-13) improved the Hawks' record to 10-8 overall and 5-2 in Conference Carolinas, while the Flying Fleet dropped to 5-12 (2-6 in the conference).

Shorter's offense was led by outside hitter Victoria Sparks, who tallied a match-high 14 kills on a .281 hitting percentage, showcasing her ability to terminate plays effectively. Middle blocker Emily Crocker added efficiency at the net with 5 kills on just 9 attempts, hitting .333 for the match. As a team, the Hawks posted an impressive .277 hitting percentage with 36 kills on 83 total swings, maintaining consistent offensive pressure throughout the match.

Defensively, Shorter stifled Erskine's attack, limiting the Flying Fleet to a .084 team hitting percentage. The Hawks' front-row defense played a critical role, capitalizing on solid blocking and forcing Erskine into 15 attack errors over 95 total attempts.

Shorter's serving was another key to their success, as the team racked up 11 service aces, applying constant pressure to Erskine's serve-receive rotation. The Hawks minimized errors from the service line, committing just four, further highlighting their disciplined and strategic play.

The victory marked another strong performance for the Hawks as they continue to solidify their position in the Conference Carolinas standings. With their balanced offense, formidable serving, and stifling defense, Shorter looks poised to make a deep run in the conference.

NEXT UP: The Hawks will hit the road for the weekend on Friday at UNC Pembroke for a 6:00 PM contest.
