Rome, GA - The Hawks soared past the Emmanuel College Lions at home on Saturday for the first win of the 2023 season. Shorter ended up winning the match 3-1.

The match got off to a quick start with Charles Garcia dishing out his first assist of the night to Miguel Souza in the 13th minute. The momentum continued to shift back and forth, finally going Emmanuel's way with the Lions tying it up 1-1 midway through the first half. Despite pressing hard to the goal until the buzzer, the Hawks went into half-time all tied up.
The Hawks took charge to start the half, seeing senior Mattia Maiello put his first goal of the season away, assisted by Garcia. Mattia Maiello was awarded a penalty kick a mere 10 minutes after and notched his second goal of the night. Although the Lions came into the second half hungry to score, Freshman goalkeeper Jason Cux-Ruiz posted a 1.000% save percentage. He solidified the win with an impressive PK save to round out the final minutes of the match.
