Rome, GA – The Hawks took on West Georgia Wolves through a competitive weekend at Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex
Game 1 – Shorter 5, UWG 12
The Hawks took the lead early in the bottom of the first inning on a double to left field by
Justin Barnes scoring
Jacob Pajer. A sacrifice fly by
Norman Leon scored
Thomas Schroeder IV giving the Hawks 2-0 going into the second.
They were scoreless through 5 innings, finally driving in two more runs in the bottom of the 7th on
Thomas Schroeder IV's single to left field.
Kobe Jones was able to score the 5
th run of the day for the Hawks on
Norman Leon's single.
Carson Cook started the game on the mound pitching for 3 innings and facing 13 batters and allowing 2 runs. He was followed by
Coy Martin,
Caleb McGinnis,
Peyton Holloway, and
Trevor Nanney who combined gave up the other 10 runs to the Wolves.
Game 2 – Shorter 12, UWG: 11
In the bottom of the first inning, the Hawks were able to get 2 runs on the board to answer back to the Wolves' lone run in the top of the 1st inning. Back-to-back hits by
Justin Barnes and
Norman Leon led off the high scoring day. Following up in the 4th inning,
Logan Stockton hit a sacrifice fly to center field scoring
Justin Barnes.
In the fifth inning, the Wolves took the lead putting the score at 5-3.
Thomas Schroeder IV hit a sacrifice fly to advance
Kobe Jones and
Jacob Pajer. Justin Barnes hit a single to left field scoring
Kobe Jones.
Logan Stockton hit a single to right field allowing
Jakob Woods to advance to third and allowing
Norman Leon and
Justin Barnes to score.
Logan Stockton was able to score off an error by UWG.
In the bottom of the sixth inning with the score SU 9, UWG 6. The Hawks were able to take advantage of a pitching error that scored
Jacob Pajer.
Justin Barnes hit a grounder to shortstop scoring a run and advancing another.
Norman Leon hit a sacrifice fly allowing
Thomas Schroeder IV to score a run putting the score SU 11, UWG 6.
Lastly,
Kobe Jones was able to hit a single advancing his teammate
Logan Stockton to score a run putting the Hawks at 12 runs on the scoreboard.
Justin Barnes went 3-for-5 with 3 runs with 3 RBIs.
Kobe Jones was 2-for-4 with 2 runs. On the mound for the Hawks to start the game was
Ethan Hawthorne pitching for 4 innings. Hawthorne only allowed one run to score while facing 17 batters.
Game 3 – Shorter: 13, UWG: 1
In the final game of the series, the Hawks and Wolves were both scoreless until the 5th inning. The first run of the game came from a West Georgia home run. Bottom of the 5th inning
Kobe Jones hit a 2 RBI double to left field advancing
Jacob Pajer to third and scoring
Kody Krause and
Logan Stockton. Following up,
Thomas Schroeder IV hit a single to center field allowing
Kobe Jones and Jacob Pajer to score.
Thomas Schroeder IV then scored on a wild pitch.
In the 6th inning, started off with
Jakob Woods driving in a run followed by a grand slam homer by
Kobe Jones giving the Hawks another 4 runs putting the score at 10-1. After a walk, wild pitch, and some singles the Hawks were able to make it a 13-1 ball game.
Some great performances came from
Kobe Jones going 4-for-4 with 2 runs scored and a total of 6 RBIs. Also,
Thomas Schroeder IV was able to score 2 runs with 2 solid hits and 2 RBIs.
Jacob Pajer had 2 hits, an RBI, and 2 runs scored as well.
Tanner Folds pitched a complete game on the bump for the Hawks allowing only 2 hits and 1 run, while facing 22 batters.
