ROME, Ga. — It was a tale of two halves in the GSC conference match-up between the University of West Alabama and Shorter University. The first half was won by the Tigers and the second half was won by the Hawks, but it in the end it was West Alabama getting the win 79-71. West Alabama moves to 7-1 (4-0 GSC) and Shorter falls to 3-6 (1-4 GSC).
Not much swung the way of the Hawks in the first half as the Tigers came out red hot on offense. Shooting 9-13 from behind the arc and going 17-29 from the field for 58%. The Tigers were led by Jaylen Lemons who could not miss from 3 and had 21 points at the half. West Alabama took a big lead into the break 48-31.
The Hawks were able to make some adjustments at the half and came out ready to gain the momentum. Freshman Hawk guard, Brent Bowman had a big night helping the team cut into the lead. He finished with 14 points off the bench. Shorter was able to cut the lead down to 8 with 4:24 left in the game but that was as close at it got.
Senior Micah Hodges led the Hawks with 17 points, going 7-8 from the field. He also had 5 rebounds.
