OXFORD, Ala. – The eighth-seeded Shorter Hawks were shut out 13-0 by the No. 1 seed Delta State University in the first round of the Gulf South Conference (GSC) tournament on Friday evening at Choccolocco Park.
Shorter ended the regular season 25-20 overall and 15-14 in GSC play to become the No. 8 seed in the tournament. Delta State ended the regular season 30-13 on the season and 20-7 in GSC play to become the No. 1 seed.
Delta State scored its first five runs in the bottom of the first. Four of these runs came from a Blayke Dendy grand slam.
The Statesmen plated eight additional runs, four in the bottom of the fifth and four in the bottom of the sixth.
The Hawks recorded three hits in tonight's game.
Logan Stockton and
Norman Leon both went 1-for-2 while
Jacob Pajer went 1-for-3.
Luke Queen pitched four innings in relief for the Hawks tonight. He had four strikeouts and gave up no earned runs.
