Hawks Clinch GSC Tournament Spot after Game Two Win in Doubleheader Split

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Shorter Hawks have clinched a spot in the 2022 Gulf South Conference (GSC) tournament after winning game two in a doubleheader with the Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) Warhawks on Friday evening. The Hawks fell 12-3 in game one of tonight's doubleheader and then defeated the Warhawks 2-0 in game two.
 
The Hawks are now 25-19 on the season and 15-13 in GSC play. The Warhawks are now 29-19 on the season and 17-12 in GSC play.
 
Game 1, Shorter falls 12-3
 
The Hawks fell 12-3 in seven innings in game one of this evening's doubleheader.
 
AUM struck first in game one and plated a run in the home half of the first.
 
The Hawks scored the next two runs to take the lead. Logan Stockton hit a home run to left in the top of the second to tie the game. Matt Christian then hit a home run to left in the top of the fourth to take the lead.
 
The Warhawks plated two additional runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead back. This made the score 3-2 AUM.
 
The score remained 3-2 AUM until the top of the sixth when Cory Mason singled through the left side to score Jakob Woods.
 
This was the final run of game one for the Hawks. The Warhawks went on to plate nine additional runs, five in the bottom of the sixth and four in the bottom of the seventh.
 
Stockton and Christian both went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in game one. Woods went 1-for-2 with a run scored. Mason went 1-for-1 with an RBI and three walks. Cameron Tilly went 1-for-1 with two walks.
 
Kenny Jinks started for the Hawks in game one. He tossed three innings, giving up one run on four hits and one walk. Trevor Nanney (L, 3-2) pitched 1.2 innings in relief, striking out two and giving up two runs on two hits and one walk.
 
Game 2, Shorter wins 2-0
 
Shorter defeated the Warhawks 2-0 in game two to clinch a spot in the GSC tournament.
 
Jonathan Pintaro (W, 9-3) started for the Hawks in game two and was dominant over seven innings of work. He had 12 strikeouts and gave up four hits and one walk.
 
The Hawks scored the only two runs of game two in the top of the fifth. Matt Christian hit his second home run of the day to plate the first run for Shorter. Shortly after this, Kody Krause singled through the right side to score Norman Leon.
 
Krause went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk in game two.

The Hawks return to action tomorrow to conclude the series with AUM. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
