ROME, Ga – The Shorter Hawks fell 6-3 in the series opener with the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) Chargers on Friday afternoon at the Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex.
The Hawks are now 21-17 on the season and 12-12 in Gulf South Conference (GSC) play. The Chargers improve to 22-21 on the season and 13-11 in GSC play.
Shorter struck first today in the home half of the first.
Cameron Tilly singled to right center to score
Jacob Pajer.
The Chargers responded to this and plated three runs in the top of the second to take the lead. UAH added to its lead in the top of the third and scored an additional run.
The Hawks plated their next run in the bottom of the fourth.
Kody Krause grounded out to the UAH shortstop, and this scored
Norman Leon.
Shorter plated its final run of the day in the home half of the fifth after Tilly had a sac fly to left that scored Pajer.
UAH plated two more runs in the game, one in the top of the sixth and one in the top of the eighth.
Tilly went 2-for-3 with two RBI in this afternoon's game.
Cory Mason went 2-for-3 with a walk. Leon went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Kody Krause went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Tyler McWillie (L, 2-3) started for Shorter today and tossed two innings, striking out one and giving up three earned runs on four hits and three walks.
Kenny Jinks pitched four innings in relief this afternoon for the Hawks, striking out three and giving up no earned runs on two hits and two walks.
Ethan Hawthorne tossed 2.1 innings in relief, striking out three and giving up one run on one hit.
