Flames Burn Hawks in Doubleheader and Sweep Series

ROME, Ga. – The Shorter Hawks dropped a doubleheader with the Lee University Flames on Saturday afternoon at the Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex. The Hawks fell 7-1 in game one and 10-0 in game two. With a doubleheader loss today and a loss yesterday, the Flames swept the Hawks.
 
The Hawks are now 17-15 on the season and 9-11 in Gulf South Conference (GSC) play after today. Lee improves to 17-17 on the season and 10-10 in GSC play.
 
Game 1, Shorter falls 7-1
 
Shorter fell 7-1 in game one of this afternoon's doubleheader. The Hawks had seven errors in this game.
 
Lee struck first in the top of the first in game one and plated a run. However, the Hawks quickly tied the game in the home half of the first after Lyndon Weaver doubled to right center to score Jacob Pajer.
 
The game remained tied until the top of the fifth when the Flames plated two additional runs. Lee went on to plate four more runs in the game.
 
Logan Stockton went 3-for-4 in game one today. Weaver went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
 
Tyler McWillie (L, 2-2) started for the Hawks in game one. He tossed 0.2 innings, giving up one run on one hit and two walks. Ethan Hawthorne pitched 3.1 innings in relief, striking out four and giving up one run on three hits.
 
Game 2, Shorter falls 10-0
 
The Flames shut out the Hawks 10-0 in game two of this afternoon's doubleheader.  
 
Cory Mason went 1-for-2 with a walk in game two today. Lyndon Weaver, Norman Leon, Logan Stockton and Matt Christian all went 1-for-3.
 
Tyler McWillie (L, 2-3) also started in this game. He tossed two innings in this game, striking out one and giving up two runs on two hits and three walks.
 
Sam Darling pitched 1.1 innings in relief and had one strikeout.

The Hawks return to action on the road on Tuesday and will face the Carson-Newman University Eagles in a non-conference game. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at Carson-Newman.
