ROME, Ga.— The Shorter Softball team hosted West Alabama for a doubleheader on Saturday. The Tigers came out and took both games from the Lady Hawks with a final score in game one of 6-1. Game two went into extra innings but the Lady Hawks were unable to take the lead in the eighth inning, 2-1.
After the day, Shorter falls to 4-16 while West Alabama improves to 11-9.
Game 1
The Lady Tigers scored three runs in the first inning. UWA continued to score in both the second and fourth innings, 5-0. The Lady Hawks bats woke up in the bottom of the fourth when
Alexis Sewell singled to first base to score
Taylor Phillips, 5-1. The Lady Tigers kept the pressure and scored one more run in the top of the fifth, 6-1. Shorter remained scoreless throughout the rest of the game.
The Lady Hawks recorded a total of three hits in the first game from
Lexie Wright, Phillips and Sewell.
Game 2
The Lady Hawks and Tigers remained scoreless until the top of the sixth when West Alabama busted open the game with a homerun, 1-0. The Lady Hawks tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with a double by
Paytn Cripps to score
Asia McWaters. West Alabama executed well in extra to plate across one run. The Lady Tigers defense kept strong to hold onto the win.
Lexie Wright went 2-2 with one walk.
Carlee Graham,
Courtney Pinkston, Cripps and Sewell each recorded one hit.
Shorter will be back in action on Sunday to finish out the series against West Alabama with first pitch slated for 1p.m.
