Hawks Drop Series Finale with Falcons

ROME, Ga. – The Shorter Hawks fell 22-9 in the series finale with the University of Montevallo Falcons on Sunday afternoon at the Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex. With a doubleheader split yesterday and a loss today, the Falcons won the series.  
 
The Hawks are now 16-12 on the season and 9-8 in Gulf South Conference (GSC) play. The Falcons are now 22-8 on the season and 8-6 in GSC play.
 
Shorter struck first in the bottom of the first this afternoon and scored seven runs. Cameron Tilly singled up the middle to score Jacob Pajer to start things off. Cory Mason then singled to left field to score Donavan Frayer.
 
Shortly after this, Justin Barnes singled to center, and this scored Mason and Tilly. Later on, Pajer singled up the middle to score Barnes and Lyndon Weaver. To plate the final run of the inning, Tilly was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and this scored Matt Christian.
 
Montevallo responded by scoring six runs in the top of the second to make the score 7-6 Shorter.
 
The score remained 7-6 Shorter until the top of the third when the Falcons plated four additional runs to take the lead in the game.
 
Montevallo plated five more runs in the top of the fourth. This made the score 15-7 Montevallo.
 
The Hawks plated their final two runs of the day in the bottom of the fourth. Andres Ferreiro hit a solo home run, and Barnes reached on a fielder's choice to score Weaver.
 
The Falcons plated one more run in the top of the fifth, three more runs in the top of the sixth and three more runs in the top of the seventh.
 
Weaver went 2-for-3 with two runs scored today. Pajer went 2-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI. Barnes went 1-for-3 with a run scored, three RBI and a walk.

Chad Davis started for the Hawks today. He tossed 1.1 innings, giving up two runs on two hits and two walks. Andrew Asselin took the loss today (L, 1-2) and tossed 0.2 innings, giving up three earned runs on two hits and two walks.

The Hawks return to action on Tuesday for a non-conference game with the Georgia Southwestern State University Hurricanes. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. at the Ledbetter Baseball Complex.
