VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Shorter Hawks dropped a doubleheader with the Valdosta State University Blazers on Sunday afternoon. Shorter fell 11-8 in game one and 6-2 in game two. With a doubleheader sweep today and a loss yesterday, the Hawks were swept by the Blazers.
The Hawks are now 14-10 on the season and 8-6 in Gulf South Conference (GSC) play. The Blazers improve to 16-5 on the season and 9-2 in GSC play.
Game 1, Shorter falls 11-8
The Hawks fell 11-8 to the Blazers in game one of today's doubleheader.
Valdosta scored the first run of game one in the bottom of the first. The Blazers plated three additional runs in the home half of the third. This made the score 4-0 Valdosta.
The Hawks tied the game in the top of the fifth.
Lyndon Weaver singled to left center to score
Andres Ferreiro to plate the first run of the game for the Hawks. Right after this,
Cameron Tilly hit a three-run home run to tie the game.
The Blazers responded to this quickly and plated three runs in the home half of the fifth to take the lead again. Valdosta then plated three more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Shorter scored its next two runs in the top of the seventh. Tilly singled to center to score
Jacob Pajer to plate the inning's first run. Shortly after this,
Justin Barnes walked with the bases loaded to score Weaver.
Kody Krause and
Norman Leon plated two additional runs for the Hawks in the top of the eighth after Krause stole second and there was a throwing error by the Valdosta second baseman.
Valdosta plated its final run in the home half of the eighth.
Tilly went 4-for-5 with a run scored and four RBI in game one.
Tyler McWillie (L, 2-1) started for the Hawks in game one and tossed three innings, striking out three and giving up four runs on four hits and two walks.
Game 2, Shorter falls 6-2
The Hawks fell 6-2 in the nightcap of today's doubleheader.
Valdosta plated its first two runs in the home half of the first thanks to a two-run home run from EJ Doskow. Meanwhile,
Justin Barnes scored the first run of game two for the Hawks in the top of the second.
The Blazers plated three additional runs in the home half of the fourth.
Shorter plated its final run of game two in the top of the fifth.

Jacob Pajer.
Valdosta plated its final run of game two in the bottom of the fifth after an RBI single.
Cameron Tilly went 2-for-3 with a walk for the Hawks in game two. Mason went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Jonathan Pintaro (L, 5-2) started for the Hawks in the nightcap. He tossed four innings, striking out five and giving up four earned runs on three hits and three walks.
