Lady Hawks clawed by Lady Wolves

CARROLLTON, Ga.—The Shorter softball team travelled to University of West Georgia on Sunday for a double header. The Lady Hawks came up short in both games with final scores of 8-0 and 8-6.

With the two losses, Shorter falls to 4-19 overall while West Georgia improves to 9-12.

Game 1
The Lady Hawks bats appeared to still be frozen from the winter weather as they recorded a total of two hits. Meanwhile the Wolves were ready to go from the beginning by scoring four runs in the first. Followed by three in the second and one in the fourth to end the game with a run rule in the fifth. Kaylee Combs and Lexie Wright each recorded one hit.

Game 2
Shorter warmed the bats up and came out hot in the top of the first to score a total of three runs on three hits. Taylor Phillips and Carlee Graham each walked with bases loaded to bring in two runs. Then, Alana Loyd singled to right field to score Lexie Wright, 3-0.
The Lady Wolves fired the bats to plate five runs in the bottom of the first. Along with adding one more run in the bottom of the second, 6-3.
In the top of the third, Carlee Graham homered to center field, 6-4. The Lady Hawks plated one run in the top of the sixth and seventh. In the sixth, Combs singled up the middle to score Hannah Morales. In an effort to take the lead in the seventh, Graham doubled to left center. Angela Cecere came in to pinch run while Courtney Pinkston singled to left field. Then Cecere scored on a wild pitch, 8-6. The Lady Wolves stayed strong with their defense to keep a hold of the lead.
Combs, Graham, Pinkston and Loyd each recorded two hits. While Payton Tuder, Alexa Varner, Morales, and Wright each had one hit.

The Lady Hawks will return back to Alto Park on Wednesday for a doubleheader against North Georgia with first pitch slated for 1p.m.
