FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga.- The Lady Hawks traveled to Franklin Springs for a matchup with the Lady Lions of Emmanuel College. Shorter held the lead for the first three quarters but were unable to keep Emmanuel from scoring the two goals in the final minute of the game to make the final score 19-17.
Emmanuel jumped out to an early lead by scoring two goals in the first minute of the game. However, the Lady Hawks came back and scored four unanswered goals; two by
Olivia Masters, one by
Maria Hansen, and one by
Jenny Hernandez which put the Lady Hawks up 4-2. The Lady Lions scored a man-up goal to cut the lead down to one.
Sydney Jones scored with three minutes left in the first quarter with an assist from
Alexis Mount to bring Shorter's lead back up to two goals, 5-3. Emmanuel scored with two minutes left in the first quarter to make it a 5-4 game. In the last two minutes of the first quarter, the Lady Hawks scored three goals; two from
Olivia Contento and one from
Sydney Jones to put the Lady Hawks up 8-4. The Lady Lions scored a goal in the last 30 seconds on the first quarter to make it an 8-5 game.
Maria Hansen started the scoring in the second quarter to give Shorter a 9-5 lead. Emmanuel scored four unanswered goals to tie the game at 9.
Cat Bloedow scored the next two goals for the Lady Hawks to take an 11-9 lead. The Lady Lions scored the last goal of the first half with two minutes to go, and the Lady Hawks went into halftime with an 11-10 lead. Emmanuel scored the first goal of the second half 30 seconds into the third quarter to tie the game at 11.
Maria Hansen got the lead back for Shorter with 10 minutes left in the third quarter. The Lady Lions scored a man-up goal to tie the game at 12. Shorter took the lead off of a goal by
Alexis Mount with three minutes left in the third. Emmanuel scored the next three goals which gave them a 15-13 lead.
Alexis Mount scored again with 10 minutes left in the game to bring Emmanuel's lead down to one. However, the Lady Lions scored the next two goals to extend their lead to three goals. The Lady Hawks fought back and scored three goals to tie the game at 17: one from
Olivia Contento, one from
Alexis Mount, and one from
Maria Hansen. Shorter was unable to keep Emmanuel from scoring the next two goals which sealed a 19-17 victory for the Lady Lions.
Maria Hansen led the Lady Hawks with four goals, and seven shots on goal.
Olivia Contento and
Alexis Mount each scored three goals. Alexis also recorded three assists and six shots on goal.
Cat Bloedow,
Sydney Jones, and
Olivia Masters all scored two goals. Goalkeeper
Makala McKinney recorded eight saves in this matchup.
The Lady Hawks will be back in action at home on Saturday March 12
th at 3 PM for a matchup with Warren Wilson College.
