ROME, Ga. – The Shorter men's basketball team took to the hardwood on Thursday night to take on conference foe
Union University. Despite a valiant effort from the Hawks, the Bulldogs pulled away late to win 73-61.
The game was extremely competitive and intriguing from the get-go. Union was able to take a narrow 32-31 lead into the locker room as the halftime buzzer sounded. The second half was much of the same until Union pulled away within the last five minutes of the game.
Three different Hawks scored double-digit points in the game, led by
Grant Atchley with 15. Atchley also had a team-high seven rebounds and a steal. Teammate
Ricky Knight Jr. finished right behind Atchley in scoring with 12 points to go along with two rebounds and four steals.
Mark Wilcox Jr. also added 10 points, two rebounds, an assist, two blocks and two steals.
As for the Bulldogs (21-6, 15-4), Tyree Boykin put up a game-high 23 points and had four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Teammate Boe Nguidjol finished second on the team with 15 points, grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and added an assist and three steals.
The next time that the Hawks (5-19, 2-17) will be back on the court will be for their final game of the season. Shorter will host Christian Brothers University at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
