ROME, Ga.— After 722 days the Shorter Women's Lacrosse team returned to Ben Brady for a matchup against Georgetown College. The Lady Hawks put up a good fight against the Tigers but came up short in the last second with a final score of 15-14.
Shorter falls to 0-3 while Georgetown improves to 2-1.
The Lady Hawks came out ready to go with two goals from
Alexis Mount in the first six minutes of play. Georgetown answered back with five goals in a row to take the score up, 5-2. To end the first quarter,
Maria Hansen and Mount each scored a goal to close the gap, 5-4.
In the second quarter, the Tigers scored twice to take the score 7-4. Shorter answered by scoring a total of three goals to tie the score, 7-7.
After the half, Georgetown scored two goals to take the lead back, 9-7. Then the Lady Hawks went on a scoring frenzy with a total of five goals in less than four minutes. Mount scored two goals,
Sydney Jones,
Cat Bloedow and
Maria Hansen all scored one goal to take the lead 12-9. With six minutes left in the third, Georgetown scored one goal. Then Mount came out with another goal to increase the lead, 13-10.
In the fourth quarter, the Tigers scored two goals to be in a one point deficit, 13-12. Mount came out and scored a goal with nine minutes left, 14-12. To close out the game, the Tigers scored three goals. With less than three seconds the Tigers scored the game winner, 15-14.
Mount led the game with a total of seven goals. While Hansen added in three goals with two assists and seven ground balls.
Shorter will head to Spartanburg, S.C. on Wednesday for a matchup against Converse University with opening draw scheduled for 3p.m.
