ROME, Ga.- The Shorter men's basketball team hosted their counterparts from the
University of West Georgia on Monday night at the Winthrop-King Centre, and the Hawks fell 94-68.
UWG (13-11, 10-7) jumped out in front early in the game, but a
Kendale Chambers Jr. 3-pointer cut the Wolves' lead to two (30-28) with 5:20 left in the first half. However, UWG put themselves back up by 11 (41-30) at the half.
The Hawks kept battling though, as
Mark Wilcox Jr. made a layup with 15:13 to go in the second half to cut the deficit to five. Unfortunately, that was as close as the Hawks got, as UWG went on to win by the aforementioned score of 94-68.
Shorter's Wilcox Jr. put up a game-high 22 points, grabbed a game-high nine rebounds and recorded two steals in the loss.
Ricky Knight Jr. finished second on the team with 15 points, a rebound, two assists and five steals. Teammate
Jaden Dunham also added 10 points to go along with six rebounds, two assists and a block.
Six Wolves scored double-digit points on the night, led by Michael Zabetakis with 17 and Kadeim Jones and Nhial with 16 apiece. Nhial also led UWG with five rebounds. The Hawks (4-16, 1-14) will be back in action on Thursday, as they will face the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Fla., at 8:30 p.m.
