HUNTSVILLE,Ala.— The Lady Hawks softball team took on #13 University of Alabama at Huntsville for a GSC conference series on Saturday at Charger Field. Shorter was unable to grab a win from the ranked Chargers with final scores of 13-3 and 8-2.
The Hawks fall to 4-29 overall and 0-23 in GSC while the Chargers improve to 24-9 and 17-6 in GSC.
Game One
Kaylee George started the Hawks off with a hit in the top of the third then Kiera Dudley hits a homer to left field to score George, 10-2. Shorter tacked on one more run in the top of the fourth with Carlee Graham leading off the inning with a double, followed by Angela Cecere using her speed to place down a bunt and beat it out at first. Then Sydney Poston hit a single through the left side to score Graham, 10-3. The Hawks were kept scoreless and in the bottom of the fifth chargers, Gracie Green, hit a three run homer to end the game due to run rule.
Shorter combined for nine hits but left six runners on base. Poston led the Hawks by going 2-3 with one RBI. Payton Tuder, Kaylee Combs, George, Dudley, Anslee Anderson, Graham, and Cecere all added in one hit each. Along with Anderson and Graham both recording doubles.
Game Two
The Hawks came out in the top of the first with Tuder hitting a double to left field followed by Dudley reaching on a fielding error from first base then George singled up the middle to score Tuder, 1-0. The Hawks kept the 1-0 lead until the bottom of the second when UAH took advantage of the mistakes from the Hawks by scoring five runs on three hits and three errors. Shorter added another run in the top of the 6th when Tuder walked, then Combs singled to left field, then Dudley reached on a fielder's choice which then caused George to walk, Anderson popped up and then Graham walked to score Tuder,8-2.
The Hawks recorded a total of four hits with Tuder hitting a double. Tuder, Combs, George, and Graham all had one hit.
The Hawks will return back to Charger Park on Sunday for the last game of the series with first pitch slated for 2p.m.
