ROME, Ga. - The Shorter Hawks finished their weekend series against Auburn Montgomery on Saturday. Game three was a hard-fought battle; the Warhawks won 7-5.
Shorter fell to 16-8 overall and 13-8 in GSC play. AUM improved to 14-12 overall and 12-12 in GSC play.
The Hawks went behind senior arm Ryan Parker, who looked to pick up his third win of the season.
The Warhawks set the tone early that they would not roll over and be swept by the Hawks. Landon Pritchett broke the game open with a two-RBI double in the top of the first. Mario Galloway reached safely on a fielder's choice, which allowed Pritchett to score, giving the Warhawks a 3-0 lead. The Hawks' true freshman Jacob Pajer answered for the Hawks with a two-run shot in the bottom of the first. Matt Christian followed it up with an RBI double to left, scoring Luis Acevedo. Both starting pitchers settled in after that point until Nathaniel Butterworth crushed an RBI single into center field, scoring Aaron Reardon. Pajer then put the ball in play to safely reach on an error that allowed Justin Barnes to score. The Hawks had a 5-3 lead going into the eighth inning before the Warhawks rallied. Ethan Wells started the rally for the Warhawks with a two-RBI single to right field. Quinterrious Arrington had an RBI single to right, scoring Jackson Ceman. With the game's final run coming from Pritchett hitting a sacrifice fly to left, which allowed Wells to score.
The Hawks will look to bounce back from this as they continue their home stand Wednesday, March 31st. Clark Atlanta University will be coming up for a mid-week matchup; the first pitch will be at 2 pm.
