LIVINGSTON, Al – The Shorter Hawks (10-6) started the weekend road series against West Alabama (8-6). The Hawks started the weekend behind senior arm Jonathan Pintaro, who was looking to pick up his fourth win.
The Hawks did not take long to break open the game in the top of the first. Luis Acevedo drives in Don Frayer on an RBI single to take the lead. The Tigers Javian Stone settled in after the first inning, pitching a strong six innings. The Hawks scarped another run across the board in the top of the sixth, as Nathaniel Butterworth reached on an error allowing Frayer to score. Pintaro was dominant through seven innings, giving up four hits and striking out 11 for the day. Kevin Ludden came in for the save opportunity, with the Hawks having the lead 2-0 going into the eighth. The Hawks added on their final run in the top of the ninth, as Aaron Reardon had a two-out RBI single to give Ludden a little more run support. The Hawks close out the game-winning game one of the series 3-0, giving Ludden his third save of the season.
Coach Wes Timmons and the Hawks will look to continue their winning ways at West Alabama tomorrow for a doubleheader. The first pitching will be at 2 pm.
