Hawks clawed by Tigers

LIVINGSTON,Ala.— The Lady Hawks fell 10-2 to West Alabama in the first game of the weekend series at West Alabama. 

Shorter falls to 4-10 overall and 0-6 in the GSC while the West Alabama improves to 8-8 overall and 4-6 GSC. 

The Tigers started out in the first inning by scoring three runs and the first to put runs on the scoreboard. UWA kept the scoring going into the second inning to take widen the lead to 7-0. Shorter decided to get the bats rolling in the top of the fifth with a single from Sydney Poston that scored Kiera Dudley to get the first run on the board for the Hawks. The Hawks continued to score in the top of the sixth when Dudley singled down the right field line to score Kaylee George. But the Hawks were kept scoreless for the final two innings to end the game with a 10-2 loss. 

The Hawks had a total of six hits but left eight runners on base. Dudely led the team by going 2-3 at the plate with an rbi. While Poston, Kaylee Combs, Taylor Phillips, and Angela Cecere all added in one hit. Dudley and Phillips each had a double as well. 

The Hawks will return back to West Alabama on Saturday for a doubleheader with games at 1 and 3p.m.
