ROME,Ga— Shorter Hawks got swept away against #10 Valdosta 9-1 on Sunday to finish out the series.
To end the weekend, the Hawks fall to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in GSC while the Blazers improve to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in GSC.
The Blazers scored in five out of the six innings with the run rule going into effect in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Shorter tallied its only two hits off Samantha Richards in the bottom of the fourth when Angela Cecere singled to left and then advanced to second on a passed ball. Carlee Graham singled to center, advancing Cecere to third. Kylie League hit a sacrifice fly, getting the Hawks on the board but a pop out to second by Taylor Phillips ended the inning with the VSU still holding onto the lead 8-1.
Shorter will return home for a midweek non-conference doubleheader against Young Harris on Wednesday, February 24th with games slated for 2 and 4p.m.
