ROME,Ga— The Lady Hawks started out with there home opener and conference opener at Alto Park on Saturday afternoon with a double header against Valdosta State. The Blazers took both games from the Hawks with a score of 11-0 first game and then 21-1 in game two.
The Hawks will fall to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play while the Blazers improve to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the GSC.
Game 1:
The Blazers came out first thing and scored in the top of the first to make it 1-0. Blazers pitcher, Samantha Richards, threw a shutout against the Hawks with no hits and three strikeouts.
Game 2:
Valdosta State's Morgan Hill came out to leadoff the game and hit a home run to give Valdosta the early 1-0 lead. Hill kept the Hawks scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when Hannah Morales started the inning off with a single to third base, then advanced to second on a passed ball. A groundout from Carlee Graham caused Morales to advance to third then Kaylee George singled to right field to score Morales for the first run of the day by the Hawks. Morales, George, and Sydney Poston all added in one hit each. Batting leaders for Valdosta included Hill, 3-3 with a home run and Kayla Tosone went 3-3. Kiley Robb had a homerun and went 3-4.
The Hawks will finish out their series with Valdosta on Sunday with first pitch set for 1p.m.
