Hawks Fall at Columbus State Tournament

COLUMBUS, Ga.— Over the weekend Shorter University Softball team traveled to Columbus State University for a tournament against Bellarmine, Young Harris and Columbus State.

Saturday
Shorter played Bellarmine to start off the Columbus State Tournament. The Knights came out scoring early in the game with a score of 3-0 after the first inning and continued again in the second inning with a score of 10-0. In the top of the third the Hawks were able to put a run on the board from a single by Tiffany Watson which scored Angela Cecere. With scoreless innings in the fourth and fifth innings the Hawks fell to the Knights 10-1. Shorter had a total of five hits on the day from Sydney Poston (2), Watson (1), Ashley Langel (1) and Paytn Cripps (1).
 
Sunday
Shorter fell to Young Harris 13-2. The Hawks were outhit 14-4. In the fourth inning the Hawks put up two on the board. Hannah Morales, Kaylee Combs, Cecere and Watson all added in one hit for the Hawks.
 
The Hawks ended up short 5-2 against the Columbus State Cougars. The Hawks decided to take advantage in the fourth inning for the second time on Sunday. Kylie League walked and then stole second on a wild pitch. Next, Lindsay Newell hit a two-run homer to right center to get Shorter on the board. In the sixth inning, the Cougars scored two more runs.
 
Up Next
The Hawks will travel to Valdosta State to start up Gulf South Conference Play on Saturday, February 15th for a doubleheader with first pitch slated for 1p.m. Sunday will be a single game with a start time of 1p.m.
