ROME, Ga.— The Lady Hawks fall 1-2 in their first home conference series against West Georgia on Friday and Saturday.
After the series, Shorter falls to 2-11 and 1-5 GSC while West Georgia improves to 9-8 and 5-4 GSC.
Friday
Shorter 2, West Georgia 1
The Wolves put the first run up on the board in the top of the first inning but Hawks defense held them to just one run the whole game. The Hawks got a spark in the bottom of the fourth from a Lindsay Newell single to score Taylor Phillips and Hannah Morales. West Georgia outhit Shorter 3-1 but the Hawks capitalized with two runners on and a single to the outfield. Shellby Young received her first win in the circle as a Shorter Hawk. With a good eye at the plate, Morales got walked for all three at bats.
Saturday
West Georgia 14, Shorter 1
The Wolves came out swinging the bats in the first inning by scoring a total of 10 runs on eight hits. The Hawks got one run back in the bottom of the first with a single from Kiera Dudley to score Hannah Morales. The Wolves score again in the 2nd with a passed ball. Then a two RBI single from Ashley Ellison and then a sacrifice fly from Brooke Parker to score Madison Slappey. At the bottom of the fifth inning the run rule kicked in to end the game with a final score of 14-1.
West Georgia 3, Shorter 1
In the final game of the series the Wolves barely outhit the Hawks 6-5. With no score until the top of sixth inning. The Wolves busted it open with Ellison scoring on a passed ball and then Sissy Atchley hitting a two-run home run. The Hawks fought back in the bottom of the 6th with a single from Dudley, then Tiffany Watson walked and Lindsay Newell hit a single to left field to score Dudley and put the first and only run on the board for the Hawks. In the bottom of the 7th Ashley Langel singled to center field but that wasn't enough to get anything started for Shorter and ended the game with a final score of 3-1, West Georgia took the series.
Newell lead the team with two hits including a double and one RBI. Morales, Dudley and Langel all added in one hit.

The Lady Hawks are back at home Friday, March 6 at 6 p.m. against Mississippi College as well as Saturday with a double header starting at 2 p.m.
