Hawks Soar Through the USI Invitational

Evansville, IN - This weekend, Shorter University's volleyball team traveled to the University of Southern Indiana. The Lady Hawks played two games on Friday and two on Saturday. They left Indiana with 3 wins and 1 loss.

//Friday

On Friday, the Hawks played 5 sets against Arkansas Tech University. However, they lost the fifth set 15-6, accounting for their only loss of the weekend. Emily Wilson lead the team in digs that game for a total of 25. Lacee Glover had 14 digs and had a team high of 14 kills. Katherine Patrick had 4 blocks for the Hawks. Later on in the day, the Hawks took on Kentucky State University, where they won in 3 sets. Mirella Gatterdam had 9 kills against Kentucky and Paris Buckner had 7. Wilson lead the Hawks again in digs with a total of 18 and Taryn Cycholl had 8.

//Saturday

On Saturday afternoon, the Hawks faced Ohio Dominican University, winning in 4 sets. Cycholl, Madison Sprosty and Sofia Stephens all had 8 digs each. Mirella Gatterdam gave the Hawks 16 kills that game as well. Their last game was against Kentucky Wesleyan College, where the Hawks won in 5 sets. They won by 2 points in the deciding fifth set, with the final score 15-13. Danielle Melton had 11 kills, Mary Ellen Enright and Annie Veldhuis both had 9 kills too.

On Tuesday evening, the Shorter Hawks will be hosting Valdosta State at 7pm in Rome, GA.
