Hawks Blow Past Canes 7-0

Rome, GA.  - Val Evans scored early off a corner kick from Felix Guijosa in the 5th minute as the  the Shorter Hawks (4-1) stormed past the Hurricanes of Georgia Southwestern University 7-0 Saturday afternoon at Ben Brady Field.  
 
Senior Thallison Alex scored his first of two goals 5 minutes later from a Seth Calero pass.  Bailey Lopez's goal in the 40th minute set up by Jason Ortega gave the Blue and White a 3-0 half time lead and command of the game.  
 
Alex then scored his 5th goal of the season from a Zach Wyborn cross to make it 4-0 in the 69th minute. Jackson Wheatley then struck for his team leading 7th goal on a header from another Wyborn cross.
Local Rome product Sergio Vasquez then notched his second goal of the season with a quick shot from 20 yards out.  Junior defender Luke Wheeldon rounded out the scoring recording his first collegiate goal for the Hawks with just 4 minutes remaining. 
 
Goalkeeper Matthew Shorrocks was credited with his first shut out of the season as he stopped 4 shots.  
 
The Hawks face NCAA DII 19th ranked Clayton State University Tuesday at Ben Brady for a 7:30 kickoff.
