ROME, Ga.  – In the opener of Gulf South Conference play, the Flames of Lee University (3-3, 1-1 GSC) bested the Shorter Hawks (2-5, 0-1 GSC) 83-66. Of their seven contests to this point, the Hawks have played six games on the road or at neutral sites, including Monday night at Lee.
 
The Hawks had a trio of players who boasted double-figure scoring in the contest. 
Ricky Knight Jr. led the way with 14 points, while 
Frenki Lilaj and 
Joseph Russell both chipped in 10 points. Lilaj led the Hawks in rebounding and assists with eight boards and four dimes.
 
Daniel Zach and 
Tyler Goodman both added eight points for the Hawks off the bench. The Flames held the dangerous 
Bryan Polanco to just eight points of scoring on the evening, which came mostly at the free throw line.
 
As a team, Shorter struggled to shoot the ball well in the contest, shooting 35% from the field and 62.5% from the charity stripe.
