Volleyball Wraps Up Season with Home Series and Senior Night

ROME, Ga—The Shorter University Volleyball team wrapped up their season with a home series on Friday and Saturday. On Friday the Hawks won against the Buccaneers 3-1 as well as celebrating their seven seniors and their accomplishments. Then on Saturday, Shorter lost to Union with a final score of 3-1.
 
Friday
The Hawks celebrated their seniors which include Mirella Gatterdam, Annie Homan, Danielle Melton, Brooke Sims, Sofia Stephens, Emily Wilson and Kendall Vondra. The Hawks came out hot and won the first two sets of the game. The Buccaneers came back to win the third set but the Hawks took set four to win the match. Shorter led the game with a total of 68 digs, 49 kills, and 44 assists. Individual leaders for the Hawks include Melton with 13 kills, Vondra with 22 assists, and Wilson with 24 digs. For Christian Brothers, Miaya Smith had a game high of 16 kills.
 
Saturday
Shorter came out ready to fight by taking the first set to a score of 36-34. This set a fire under Union who came out and won the next three sets to win the match. As a team the Hawks led with 60 assists, 75 digs and four aces. In their last game as a Hawk, Melton had a game high of 19 kills, Gatterdam added in 15 kills and Vonda had 35 assists. Wilson ended her career with 22 digs which puts her at a career total of 1,127 digs in her two years at Shorter.
