AUM sweeps Lady Hawks in GSC play

Montgomery, Ala. -- The Lady Hawks dropped both games of the doubleheader at Auburn Montgomery Friday afternoon by 2-0 and 5-0 scores, respectively.

With the losses, Shorter moves to 15-18 on the season and 10-12 in the GSC; while the Warhawks improve to 21-12 on the year and 12-11 in conference play.

GAME 1: AUM 2, SU 0
AUM took the lead in the first inning on an RBI single from Gracie Harris and added to it in the sixth with a run on an RBI single from Gracie Poe. The runs proved to be enough, as they held the Lady Hawks scoreless in the contest despite Shorter having baserunners in five of the seven innings.

Payton Lippert took the loss; allowing two earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts through six innings of work.

Taylor Martin, Dani Lukas and Abi Valdes each tallied a hit in the game.

GAME 2: AUM 5, SU 0
The Warhawks took the lead in game two with a three-run third inning and added to it with two in the sixth for the 5-0 final score. Shorter saw its biggest threat of the day come in the sixth as Kaylee Combs, Lukas, Valdes loaded the bases on consecutive two-out hits but were left stranded as Ashley Langel popped out to end the inning.

Hannah Draper took the loss, allowing five runs – two earned – on nine hits with two walks through six innings of work.

Valdes led the offense with two hits; while Combs, Lukas and Amelia Olive each added one apiece.

The Lady Hawks will look to avoid the series sweep Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for 1:00pm ET, weather permitting.
