Montevallo tops Women's Lacrosse 18-7

Montevallo, Ala. -- The Lady Hawks fell to Montevallo, 18-7, on the road Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, Shorter moves to 0-8 overall and 0-6 in the GSC; while the Falcons clinched a spot in the conference tournament and move to 8-6 on the year and 303 in conference play.

Shorter got on the board first as McKinley Puckett scored before a full minute had ticked off the clock. Only to have Montevallo answer with four straight. Shorter countered with back-to-back scores from Aubrey Geiger to cut the lead to one, 4-3, with 13:25 to play in the opening half. From there, however, the Falcons pulled away, netting the next nine scores, to hold a ten-point advantage minutes into the second half. The Lady Hawks added four goals in the second half – three from Geiger and one from Puckett – but weren't able to overcome the deficit as UM maintained their advantage.

In total, Montevallo held a 30-26 advantage in shots, while holding a slim 21-19 lead in shots on goal. The difference however, was that UM tallied 12 saves to Shorter's three. Both teams took five free-position shots. While, Shorter tallied 12 draw controls and 16 ground balls.

Geiger led the offense with five goals, while Puckett added two. Puckett also added six draw controls and Peyton Reid chipped in with three saves and four ground balls.

The Lady Hawks will be back in action next Saturday, April 14, as they travel to Lee for a 1:00pm start.
